Trick Your Ride

April 13 @ 12:00 pm 4:00 pm

Thanks to Barb Francis for being the hostess! If interested, check your deck lines, bungees, handles, hull, seat apparatus (including fit), foot pegs, paddle, hatch covers, bulkheads, skeg/rudder rigging, reflectors and any other equipment to get ready for summertime.

We are extremely lucky to have Ed and Tom there to help advise on repairs! Bring any supplies you might need as this is hands-on. Bring saw horses or something to set your boat on.

For more information, contact Barb Francis  baefrancis@msn.com, Ed Alm ealmorders@gmail.com, or Tom Borst theupriverrat@gmail.com

What is “Trick your Ride”?
Trick your ride is essentially a members-helping-members event where we get together and share knowledge about modifying and or repairing your kayak. If you have some small repair or modification that you have been wanting to get done to your boat this is a great way to get it done.  In the past, it has been held at Barb Francis’ house in her garage and driveway.

Typical things that are addressed are:
Installing a keel strip, (KeelEazy)
Adding heel pads for where your heels are wearing on the bottom of your boat,
Installing perimeter lines to make it much easier to do a capsize recovery,
Replacing worn perimeter lines
Replacing worn bungee lines
Adding beads to deck lines
Adding reflective tape, to make your boat more visible in low light and at night
Repairing small dings or scratches in gel coat
Replacing/repairing the back band
Changing out perimeter deck lines to reflective type.
Replacing worn/damaged Rudder cables
Adding an underdeck storage bag
Installing a deck compass

The way it works
If you have something you want to do to your boat, then plan to bring your boat to Trick your Ride. It is a very good idea to communicate with the people organizing Trick your Ride that you intend to be there and what task you would like to accomplish. The organizers can help you make sure you bring the correct materials to accomplish the task. All the tools will be there, some supplies will be there but generally you need to bring whatever supplies (nuts, bolts, screws, line, bungee, etc.) you need for your task. Some people just come to watch and assist, but if everyone just came to watch then there would be nothing to watch.
