Members Helping Members – Kayak rescues & Basic edging – Bham Bay

August 5, 2020 @ 5:30 pm 8:30 pm

Wednesday we will share our knowledge at Members Helping Members (MHM) at Bellingham Bay on Aug. 5. 5:30 pm start, so be ready to go, kayak in the water, at the CBC (Community Boating Center) in Fairhaven. Please be sure to wear a covid face mask on shore.
On the waves of Bellingham Bay, we will discuss cold water exposure, review and practice wet exits and self-rescues, as well as basic edging. We can display assisted rescues, although only household members could practice with each other due to covid. Self-rescues will include using a paddle float and the cowboy rescue. Bring a paddle float.  Members are welcome to paddle around the bay together after the session.
Wetsuits or drysuits are recommended. The water is cold and we will be in it. A warm day is predicted, but the water will help to cool off. https://wakekayak.org/safety/
It’s a busy season, so be careful of boat trailers and other people launching. Please do not obstruct others and move quickly to clear the way, particularly your vehicle.  Thank you for wearing a covid face mask.
Please RSVP for MHM so we have enough mentors and in case we cancel for weather or lack of RSVP’s.

Future MHM may include Lake Whatcom, Chuckanut Bay, and Larrabee / wildcat cove.
All members: what do you want to learn, or have knowledge to share, where do you want to paddle, and when are you available for MHM?

Happy Paddling, Sheila Sheila@WAKEkayak.org
