Paddle – Lummi Island DNR Site

July 21, 2020 @ 9:30 am 5:00 pm

We will paddle from Gooseberry Point on Lummi peninsula to DNR campground on SSE Lummi Island. Currents are mildly favorable out and back.  It’s around 12 miles. However, SE winds are predicted at  5-15 knots, becoming S 10 to 20 kt in the afternoon. Wind waves 1 to 3 ft.
Meet at 9:30, launch at 10:00 a.m., just south of the Gooseberry point ferry. Lunch at Lummi DNR campground. Arrive back roughly midday.
Must be a WAKE 2020 member and have signed a 2020 waiver. Contact me if you have not.

Please follow Covid protocol, wear masks on shore at Gooseberry and DNR, and maintain distancing. It’s easy to let that slide, but we all want to protect ourselves and each other. 6′ is about 3 arms’ lengths. Cold water immersion gear is required, including drysuit or an appropriate full-body wetsuit. Please be sure you have the strength and skills for this. In addition, I estimate the necessary kayaking ability level:Skills: LEVEL III:  Confident assisted and self-rescue abilities and bracing. May be swells, eddy lines to cross, moderate to strong wind effects, moderate to difficult landings. Current to 3-4 knots.Endurance: Expect 4-6 hours and/or 10-15 nautical miles .  Speed: 3 to 4.5 knots consistently. Average touring speed. You are in good paddling shape.
